The function STATIONS allows to display on a map of Italy the meteorological stations of the networks whose data contribute to the calculation of SCIA climatological indicators. Stations metadata such as geographical coordinates, measured variables, etc., may also be dowloaded on text files. The function TIME SERIES allows to display the time diagrams of climatological variables on a station, after choosing the variable, the time interval and the time step (10 days, month or year). The data of the time diagram may be also downloaded on text files. The function ANALYSIS allows to extract and download climate indicators of several stations for a specific time period (ten-daily, month or year: for example, the mean temperature of a certain month of a certain year). The spatial distribution che be displayed as contourline map and interpolated gridded data can be downloaded. The represantativity of climate data in space can be reduced by the limited density of the stations. The function TEMPERATURE MAPS allows to display the high resolution temperature maps obtained through data interpolation with "regression kriging", where part of data variability is explained by a regression model and part by the interpolation of residuals through ordinary kriging. The gridded interpolated data can be downloaded. The function MAPS allows to display the spatial distribution of a 10 days, or monthly, or annual indicator (for axample, the average temperature of a certain month of a certain year) through contour lines. The point values from which gridded data are derived, and gridded data, may be also downloaded on text files. La representativity of the maps may be strongly limited by the density of the measurement points, which may be inadequate for the data spatialization over the whole territory. The function Climate Normals: TABLES allows to display as tables and bar charts the climate normal values of a few variables on a selected station (for example, the average temperature in the 30years interval 1961-1990). If available, also recent values are displayed for comparison. The function Climate Normals: MAPS allows to display the maps of the spatial distribution of the climate normals. As the criteria adopted for the calculation may be not exactly the same, the values of climate normals may differ form those of the CLINO messages officially transmitted by the Air Force Weather Service to the WMO. The function ANOMALIES allows to display the maps of the spatial distribution of a selected year anomaly with respect to climate normals. Several functions allow to select one or more observation networks. When comparing or integrating indicators coming from the data of different networks, one should consider that the values of the indicators depend on the frequency and the time average of the observations, which can be different for different networks. Through the HELP button, included into each function, a short guide to its use and notices on the interpretation of the SCIA products are displayed. |
